As Tears Go By

March 12, 2010

The lighting in this scene can be cataloged mainly as a symbolic style of lighting. The characters are lit by another source/s lights different from the lamp placed over the table. Also the pink ball, the white ball, the billiard stick and the character point to a picture on the background which is lit with an individual source light, I mean, there is a light for this picture, therefore if the entire composition is analyzed, this picture possess a strong meaning, is a message. Also there are many dark parts in the composition and only the symbolic elements are lit.

Ashes of Time Redux

March 12, 2010

In this shot there are two main colors that create the composition. There is a red, pink and a little green color in the foreground and in the background there is a bluish and some not illuminated parts. In this shot there is not a well defined mid ground. The character is lit by at least one light located in front of her. The quality of light is mid in intensity, also is a white light. One interesting element of the background in terms of lighting and composition is the distribution of the light  in  one of the windows bars. This particular distribution generates a limit in the composition because creates the effect of a “limit” and also is a line back to the character shoulder and therefore, to his face.

Ashes of Time Redux

March 12, 2010

In this the lighting is dull and the lighting style is naturalistic. The scene is lit no evenly, there are many bright spots along the corridor. The focus of interest is in the right side of the corridor (stage left) and this part is enhanced by the use of light in the character face, the use of the red color in the character cloth that contrast with all the unsaturated colors in the scene props (walls, steps, windows) and by the use of a bright source of light which is the candle that the character is holding. This shot is composed mainly by straight lines but also there are curves lines in the floor.

Arthur et les Minimoys

March 12, 2010

In this shot the center of interest is located from the left (stage right) to the center of the screen. There is an obvious line that goes from that side to the center of the screen. There is a foreground which is t he telescope, the mid ground is the character and the background is the moon.

First,  one important aspect is the different colors of each plane. The Telescope has a gold color, the character posses mild colors and the background (the moon) posses a high intensity white with a purple haze around it. Second, is important to point that the mid ground is the only one in that it is in focus. In lighting terms the character is lit evenly, the moon sets a background and also the character possess a high intensity light on his shoulder which separates the character from the background.

Fritt vilt II

March 12, 2010

In this shoot not only the action but also the lighting is set to enhance de mid ground of the scene. The lighting style is set as naturalistic, because it is supposed to be reality itself, this means that the source lights in the screen are supposed to be the ones that illuminate the scene. The colors are interesting in terms of meaning and how the snow is in charge of framing the “stage”. Also the characters use the same colors of the set (black and white).

In terms of composition, also is interesting how the left side (right side in the stage) is limited by the silhouette of a sign and also how the lines of the street lights pull down the spectator eye to the center of action.
