Innocence

January 30, 2010

This is a movie called “Innocence” and the format is illustration. personally, when I saw this frame of the movie (I did not watched the movie) I create an imaginary path between the character standing on the door to the couch in the right of the set (left stage in stage lighting). This is due, because many technical aspects such as framing and also because of how the stage/characters/objects are lit.
In one hand the character standing on the door is lit by a top light, which is similar to a point light in maya. This light has the goal of setting color and composition, because do not lit anything in the scene. Another light illuminates the ground and the quality of this light is similar as a wash light.  In the mid ground there are elements lit in a blue/green type of light and in the foreground the couch it is also lit by a wash light. I believe all the lights are wash lights because the shadows are not harsh, but the opposite, they are soft.

The ilussionist

One aspect very interesting lighting aspect in this particular scene of the movie titled “The illusionist” is  the light contrast. In one hand there are many aspects like the public and some parts of the background that are totally
even lit. Also, the actor placed on the center of the stage is lit even (I believe that his white shirt guide the viewer eye to him, but not because of the light intensity) but on he other hand there are many are that are in complete
darkness. I believe that the director goal was to show the iconic figures on this scene/shot (actor/audience/set).

Max manus

January 30, 2010

This is a scene from the movie “Max manus”. In this particular scene there are many visual elements that I will focus on. The first one is the background lights. This lights  the viewer a background and create depth to the scene but also generate an interesting texture when the beam of light is reflected on the water.  Another aspect to analyze is the silhouette of the canoe which is being tripulated by two persons.I believe that this lighting
was difficult to achieve because it is almost dark and the problem that this could generate is the visivility of the actors. Finally, the actors are illuminated by a light placed on the right which has a blue tint, to emulate night.

The other boleyn

January 30, 2010

This is a scene from the movie “The other Boleyn”, in this scene the type of lighting is harsh, the shadow is well-defined and it non motivational type. There are two well-defined types of color lighting in the scene. There is the first one that it is a “white” and “natural” light which could be the sun as a the source and there is another type which is placed in the back of the hall which is  yellow.
It is interesting how the viewer eye goes from one place to the other, after the imaginary line created by the lights.

The others

January 30, 2010

This is a scene from the movie “The others”. There are three light at least in this particular scene. One of them  is set as non motivational type of light, I think so because the stage is lit as if it was lit by the candle set on the table.
On the left side there is another light, which I believe is a wash light because is not a harsh beam of light, but the opposite. I think that the goal of this light is to give volume to the scene so it is not flat. And the last light it is positioned behind the window, which emulates the sky or moon. This gives a complete composition to the scene because with the sum of all three light the viewer can see a foreground (the actors) a mid(the couch) and a background (window).
