Death Proof

March 14, 2010

This shot is interesting because how the planes are set. The car at first sight appears to be in the background but in fact is set in the mid ground. The background could be defined as the dust “cloud” behind the car and of course, the foreground is the road from the car to the camera.

In terms of lighting the quality of light is intense and there are many sources in this set trying to enhance the character/car performance. First, there is a source light placed on the back of the car that creates a dust cloud and much more important gives volume to the lighting; thanks to this the lighting becomes something concrete similar to a wall. Second, there is another source/s on stage right that illuminates the grass, the road and also produces a glow in the car. Finally, the car silhouette is strong in contrast with the dust cloud.

Death Race

March 14, 2010

This shot seems not to be illuminated by an artificial set of lighting. The main source is the sun and, this could be the early morning or late afternoon. The light that is distributed in the cloud surface is very interesting, provides to the viewer nice red colors, blues and dark grays but also the light in this surface produces a very interesting texture. Also this light produces a nice and defined silhouettes to the architecture structures in the ground. This silhouettes creates many lines and set a limit to the spectator.

Doomsday.

March 14, 2010

The camera in this shot posses a strong meaning. I believe that the camera was set this way because wanted to enhance that the girl character is important as the horseman. Imagine that the camera is set from a normal angle, the horseman size is much bigger that a human, therefore, the human is being minor than the other character.

Also there is an intense light directed to the human character. The quality of this light is high in intensity, the color is white, and also goes thru fog which generates an interesting emotion related sometimes to “human enlighten”.

Doomsday

March 14, 2010

This shot is dramatic due to the light set and the camera zoom. In one hand the lighting that it is distributed in the character face produces very interesting textures in his skin and bear, also in the surfaces were the character is looking through. The background is also being illuminated but is out of focus, I believe that the background is set this way because helps to contrast all this lit area against the dark area that the character is seeing.

Dollhouse

March 14, 2010

This shot is set as naturalistic style because the set is supposed to be lit only  from the light sources that are inside the shot. The shot has two important planes, the first one is the foreground and the second one is the background. The midground is empty, literally. The lighting is a tool that enhance this concept also because all the lines take the spectator eye from the foreground to the background with no interruption in the midground.
