The protector

February 6, 2010

In this scene the lights are placed on the set in a symmetrical orientation. This means that the left is similar to the right, specially on the background.
On the foreground there is a actor on the scene that breaks this composition and he is lit by a light from right on his top as it can be appreciated in the shadow created on this face contrasting the illumination on his arm.
There are many colors on the scene but they interact between each other creating an harmonic composition.

Skjult

In this scene the light quality is interesting in terms of texture and how they create a path from the camera to the actor.
There are many different types of textures and also how the light distributes itself in this surfaces is interesting. Also it is important to have in mind that the light sources aparently are the same,  so the changes in the reflections are produced by the position and the surfaces quality. For example, the light glowin in the walls are different from the ground and from the doors.
The lines that all these light produces are very interesting and also they achieve a great objective because he lights and they reflections follow the viewer path to the actor.

sin city II

February 6, 2010

This is a frame from the movie sin city. Aparentlyu there are many  types of light sources. In one hand there is one lights source  that is supposed to come from the exterior. Im refering to the window. this type of light appears to be artificial because is so intense and bright that it is not possible that the source is the sun, therefore I will catalogue it as non motivational. The source light from the door seems to be also from a natural source becouse its direction which is the same as the window, but the quality of light is so artificial that should be a artificial source.
Also if these two first lights are compared with the artificial lighs placed on the scene, they are very similar that is why I believe they are unnatural sources.
Even though is almost evident that the four sources are artificial, the analisis is done only by the light and its quality.

Sin city

In this particular frame of the movie sin city the lighting set up is very interesting. On one hand there are multiple source lights.
The first one is in the back, in the windows, the quality of light is high intensity . There is a second light on the right of the actors which separates the male character from the background (shoulder, cheek and head ) and separates the female character from the actor (arm and shoulder).  There is another light on the left as well. A ll the lights creates on the actors detailed expressions on their faces because of the high contrast.

kickboxer

February 6, 2010

This is a frame of the movie kickboxer. In this particular scene the type of lighting is strict motivational because is emulating sun light entering from a window.  In fact this particular source light, its intensity is so high that it is almost non motivational type of lighting.
There are two sources of light. The first one is placed on the window placed behind the column but also there is another source of light entering from the opposite side of that window. I believe this is important because it is creating shadows in the wall and this produce depth to the audience. Also the direction of the shadows is much more interesting than if  they were towards the camera.
