Che: part I the argentine

March 13, 2010

The lighting style in this shot is naturalistic. There is at least one source located on the right (stage left) that generates contrast on the actors. This light it is supposed to be by a natural source, the sun in this case. Also main interest is in the center of the scene because many aspects. First, the lines in the background (mountains) lead the viewer eye to this area, there are two wood sticks that generates a limit in the scene and also  the character colors dress hence this part of the screen over the other.

There is a group of characters on the mid ground that are also lit by almost the same light quality as the ones in the foreground, this generates verisimilitude. Is a scene full of textures and is a colorful shot.

Crouching tiger hidden dragon

March 13, 2010

The lighting in this scene is naturalistic. One of the most interesting aspects in this scene is the color. Is a shot full of color. The environment is a pure green composed by the trees and the character are dressed in white, which separates them completely from the background and foreground (they are in the midground).

Also the shot is full of textures because of the pines leaves. Finally, the lines in this composition  are vertical but the exception is the branch where the characters are fighting which is horizontal, important detail because breaks this space among the foreground and background.

Batman

March 13, 2010

In this shot of “Batman” there are many aspects that are interesting to analyze. The distribution of the light in the water  creates an interesting texture over this surface. Also the water is mixed with ice and this also helps for achieving a particular texture on the water. Also the material in the background is not reflective like the water and this helps to set a boundary in the shot for the spectator. The lighting style in this scene is set as expressionist; there is a high contrast between light and dark areas and the performance of the “character hand” is dramatic almost caricaturist.

Batman Forever

March 13, 2010

The lighting style is expressionist and naturalistic. In one hand, the character is lit by a high intensity red color on his right side of the body (stage left). This is a complement with the characters anatomy and personality quality that is why the high intensity red is in this side of the body.

On the other hand, the other part of the body is lit closer to a naturalistic style, which also, complements with the character personality. The scene is composed by a “line” that goes from the character placed on the right (stage left), followed by the gun and finally the composition ends in another character placed on the shot.

All the action happens in the foreground and the background is almost invisible in terms of importance.

Near dark

March 13, 2010

In this particular shot the character is almost located in the center of the composition dividing the shot in two vertical parts.  The shot also is divided horizontally by high contrast between the sky and the ground. Also the character is almost like an extension of the ground and they contrast with mid intensity background providing to the viewer a powerful silhouette.
